FLAG. aka. 'Terra nullius' ("nobody's land")
National flags flutter above the surface of this planet in the name of power, conflict and control. FLAG challenges our perception of these divisive symbols of cultural and ethnical identity. The work alludes to the idea that time and space not only change the patterns of nature and human activity but also flags themselves. Through a seemingly random process of 'marking the spot' within a specific locality - home territory - the flags' significance is rendered benign. |
